Tachographs were introduced to monitor driver’s hours and are fitted in most commercial vehicles.  The instrument records driver’s hours and mileage. Road speed limiters were introduced to help reduce road fatalities and also reduce fuel consumption. There are several types of limiters which are controlled through an electronic control unit via the tachograph, so that when the vehicle reaches its top speed, the limiter reacts and cuts fuel to the engine, because it only works on the top speed the driver does not lose any power in lower gears.
